My kids had never even heard of pewter before we visited Royal Selangor. I knew that they offer an interactive experience and I thought it would be a good chance to have some educational fun with the kids, and it was!

Location for Royal Selangor Visitor Center

Royal Selangor Visitor Center claims to be the largest manufacturer and retailer of pewter in the world. It’s in Kuala Lumpur just a short distance from the city center (about half an hour drive from KL Sentral). Click here for the exact map location of Royal Selangor Visitor Center in Kuala Lumpur.

When you walk into The Royal Selangor Visitor Center, a friendly staff will greet you at the entrance. A free guide is assigned to take you around the museum exhibits. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He spoke to the kids and kept them interested by engaging them in activities, games and challenges.

The museum is a great place to learn about Malaysia’s economy and historical arts, as well as the history of pewtery in general, and Royal Selangor. There are so many fun facts and stories to discover, like the lucky teapot that saved a worker from a deadly bullet!

Beyond the museum exhibits, we got a chance to watch workmen crafting pewter. My daughter, who is into crafts; was particularly entertained as they presented the different techniques of pewtery. Also allowed the kids to interact with them and try out the tools for themselves.

The highlight of the visit is the chance to craft your own pewter souvenir; by hammering and engraving your name on it. The kids absolutely loved it, and each of them made one for themselves! By the exit there is a retail center where you can view and even buy a pewter masterpiece. Overall I recommend you pay them a visit as it was fun and educational for both kids and adults.
