On the 21st of September 2016, Qatar University held an event for World Alzheimer’s Day. The event comprised of three parts. The first part was an open mic session where people voiced their thoughts, questions, and concerns about Alzheimer’s, alongside an exhibition and games that gave an intimate understanding of the disease.
For the second part “Still Alice” was screened, a new movie around a woman dealing with early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. The third part was an expert presentation and question & answer session with Dr. Basim Uthman, Professor of Clinical Neurology and Consultant in Hamad Medical Corporation. Dr. Uthman spoke about Altzeimer’s in details and offered some eye opening statistics about the disease both around the world and in Qatar. He also discussed how to detect signs of Alzheimer’s and what relatives can do to help those who are suffering from it.
