A new report by Macmillan Cancer Support says cancer survival rates have increased, but more needs to be done to ensure survivors get the right care. Indeed, people who overcome cancer are often left with long-term issues and need lots of physical and mental support. The report stated that “more than 170,000 people in the UK who were diagnosed with cancer up to 40 years ago are still alive.” It also estimates that around a quarter of survivors need support due to issues such as financial troubles, depression, guilt, physical discomfort, and much more. While better treatments and earlier diagnoses lead to higher survival rates, with people twice as likely to survive for at least a decade after diagnosis, more needs to be done to ensure they have adequate care and support.
