In Qatar’s continuous attempt to tackle diabetes, and as recommended by the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), a smart clinic system has been implemented to reduce diabetes risk among Qataris. The smart clinic first opened in January 2016 in Al Wakra Hospital as a pilot program. It was created to actively call and invite Qatari patients registered in Al Wakra to have diabetic screening. Patients who are identified as being diabetic will immediately be referred to a group of nurses, physicians, health educators and nutritionists who will guide them through maintaining a sustainable and healthy lifestyle for their condition. The program has been a success, with 9,800 patients registered for testing by March 2016.
