MoPH Signs MoU with Kahramaa on “Health in the Workplace” Programme

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to implement the “Health in the Workplace” Programme.
The MoU aims to strengthen the cooperation between MoPH and Kahramaa with a view to carrying out the “Health in the Workplace” Programme events and activities in order to promote employee health and to raise awareness about adopting a healthy lifestyle.

The MoU was signed for MoPH by Sheikha Dr. Al-Anoud bint Mohammed Al-Thani, Director of Health Promotion and Non-Communicable Diseases, and for Kahramaa Engineer Abdul Rahman Ali Al-Nemaah, Director of Health, Safety and Environment Department.

During the signing ceremony, Dr. Al-Anoud welcomed the joining of Kahramaa to the other corporations and bodies participating in the implementation of the “Health in the Workplace” Programme, noting that the number of these institutions currently exceeds 20 from public and private sectors.

She added that MoPH is targeting the implementation of the programme at all public and private institutions, stressing that the programme success will contribute to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among employees, as well as providing a safe and healthy environment for them, in addition to improving health practices.

For his part, Engineer Abdul Rahman Ali Al-Nemaah, Director of Health, Safety and Environment Department said that the signing of the MoU with MoPH comes within Kahramaa’s concern about employee health, noting that “Health in the Workplace” is one of the distinguished programmes aiming to enhance employee wellbeing.

“Kahramaa is seeking, through the application of this programme, to encourage employees to adopt healthy lifestyles in their daily life, such as healthy nutrition, physical activity inside and outside the workplace, smoking cessation, in addition to raising awareness about ways to overcome daily work pressure,” added Engineer Al-Nemaah.

It is worth mentioning that the “Health in the Workplace” Programme comes as part of MoPH’s efforts to promote employee health and to achieve the NHS (2011-2016) goals so as to contribute to the promotion of people’s health as well as building a new generation that enjoys better health.

In addition, the programme is part of the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Action Plan 2011-2016 which includes many important projects at the national level to be in line with NHS goal 3 “Preventive Healthcare”, such as reducing the rate of chronic diseases and its related deaths.
