Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) will participate in the activities of the Gulf Campaign for Cancer Awareness under the slogan”40% Protection – 40% Cure.” The campaign takes place annually during the first week of February.
The awareness weekaims to unify media messages in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), under the Gulf Union AgainstCancer in cooperationwithGulf Center for Cancer Control & Prevention (GCCCP).
On 4th February at 10am, a 5km Marathon Walk will be launched from the Corniche. 500 people from different age groupsare expected to participate. The event aims to raise awareness of the importance of sport in the prevention of diseases, especially cancer.The Marathon Walk includes a prize draw for participants.
HE Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani, Chairman of the Gulf Union Against Cancer and Chairman of QCS, said “The event will raise awareness of the risk factors involved in cancer, and promote a healthy lifestyle, as well as encourage early detection of cancer and activate national programs for the fight against cancer as a shared responsibility between government and non-governmental sectors.”
Dr.Abde Azim Abdul Wahab, Vice Chairman of QCS, said “The campaign message aspires to strengthen the relationship between all segments of society in the dissemination of health awareness through the implementation of joint programs with professional awareness and professionalism in the fight against cancer.”
The campaign’s vision centersaround protectingsociety from the risk of cancer. 40% of cases can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle, and 40% can be cured if diagnosed.
